Sordin Flexible Attenuation works by spacing the cushion away from the cup with a detachable distance ring and a thicker insert. Fitted, the headset sits at its high attenuation level; removed, the cup runs slimmer and closer to the head at the standard level. The distance ring is the component that makes that switch possible.

This is the ring on its own, as a spare. It is a rigid moulded part rather than a cushion, so it does not wear out the way sealing rings do — but it can be lost during a reconfiguration, cracked, or left behind in a case, and without it the headset cannot be returned to its high attenuation setting.
